Sometimes the road less travelled, is best experienced by travelling alone. Movies, to include popular culture box office hits like "Into the Wild" (2007), "Eat, Pray, Love" (2010), "Under the Tuscan Sun" (2003), and "Tracks" (2013), laud the virtues of travelling alone. Brooke Saward, Founder of World of Wunderlust, published a wonderful article entitled "4 Movies to Watch Before You Travel Solo" (check out this article and her wonderful website at http://www.worldofwanderlust.com/movies-to-watch-before-you-travel-solo/ ). Each of these films offers insights into the personal transformation that can be realized when your travel experiences are focused on discovering the best parts of who you are. If you decide that soul searching is indicated, and that a trip to refuel your spirit is on the horizon, we say...."Yeessss...!"

As you begin to visualize what that experience might look like, we at Bucket List Travel & Lifestyle would like to provide you with some important tips. We have curated some of our favorite tips from noted travel experts. These tips will help you consider how to travel safely, how to travel with purpose, how to get the most bang for your buck, and how to travel in a manner that allows you to get the best out of your experience.

1. SAFETY FIRST. Whether you are a male or female traveler, it is important that your travel planning include safety considerations. The United States Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs issues travel warnings and alerts for American travelers. Before you travel, point your browser to: http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/alertswarnings.html to review the most current travel alerts and warnings. By clicking on http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/emergencies.html, you can also peruse information on the site concerning what to do in the event of an emergency when traveling (including what to do when your passport is lost or stolen). Of course, well in advance of your travel, we would recommend that you make it a point of reviewing local news sources from the places where you will be traveling. Websites such as InternationalNews.us list where to locate international news and international news aggregators.

2. FOLLOW YOUR BLISS. Take the time, before your trip, to assess the reason you are traveling. Is this trip important as a means of rebooting physically, mentally, or emotionally? Do you hope to use this time as a journey of self-discovery? Is the intent behind the travel to expand your knowledge and education? Whatever the reason, this is an important consideration that should help you clarify the context for your travels. This context will allow you to prioritize which elements of your travels should hold greater importance. Remember, traveling alone means you can give yourself permission to speak into your needs. So, follow your bliss, and think about what you hope to accomplish in your travels. A Bucket List Travel & Lifestyle consultant can help you explore the intent behind your journey, through the use of our unique Lifestyle Travel Planning Assessment process.

3. BIG BANG...LITTLE BUCK. Traveling alone requires that particular attention be paid to managing your expenses in a manner that allows you to make the most of your trip. As experienced travelers, Bucket List Travel & Lifestyle consultants are in the best position to collaborate with you to insure that you are in the best position to insure that your travel dollars work for you. Sometimes exploring the beauty and wonder requires you to take the path less traveled. From planning the more complex elements of your travel down to planning the smallest elements of your experience, oftentimes your budget may limit your options and opportunities. Study after study has shown that your financial decisions are directly related to your personality. Our experience has taught us that by understanding the "push" and "pull" factors that impact traveler motivation, we develop a deeper understanding of the client's personality. Understanding our client's personality allow us to assist the client in setting a travel budget and keeping within that budget while traveling. Our team's extensive travel experience means that we are often aware of how our clients might save money and find value, without compromising the quality of your travel experience. For instance, we understand that in some cases, it may make better financial sense to consider booking alternative accommodations, such as a vacation rental or a home exchange service, instead of a hotel. Local tourism agencies often offer both services and discounts for travelers. Our global travel network allow us to reach out to our international travel partners, in an effort to insure that you receive value when you travel.

4. KEEP CONNECTED. Fortunately, we live in the information age. Even for the traveler who prefers to travel alone, it is very important that you create opportunities to stay connected to a friend or family member back home. In addition to sharing your travel itinerary in advance of your trip with someone back home, it is important that you develop a communications plan. This plan should include arranging pre-determined times, during your journey, to provide updates or news concerning your travels. Internet based calling, in addition to social media, are effective tools for staying connecting throughout the course of your travels.

5. DON'T OVER-THINK THINGS. While there is no substitute for good planning, building flexibility into your planning is the best way to insure that you have a wonderful trip. At Bucket List Travel & Lifestyle, we believe that by working with one of our well-traveled consultants, a worry-free journey will be your best reward. We aspire to be your partners in travel, and will work very hard to insure that your trip is as worry-free as possible.
